Upcycling tips & tricks

There are so many benefits to upcycling!

We save materials from landfill, reduce what goes into landfill by preventing things from being quickly thrown away, and we create items that are completely unique. Last but not least, it's a fun and easy way to get creative and live Aloha at home!

Let's make cool things out of old things - I promise: the results will amaze you.

PURELEI packaging toolbox

Let's start with our classic PURELEI packaging, and hey - it's plastic-free!

All you need is...

  • PURELEI jewelry boxes (as many as you want!)
  • Eco-friendly tape or glue
  • Wrapping paper or tissue paper
  • Scissors

Collect as many jewelry boxes as you can, empty them and arrange them to see what it looks like. Then glue the boxes together and let them dry for a few minutes.

Have you always wondered what to do with leftover wrapping paper? Personalize your newly created toolbox with colored paper – or get creative and paint them! You'll be amazed and amazed at how well (and quickly!) this method works when you try it for the first time.

PURELEI lavender bags

These are especially fun to craft and fun to give as gifts! We're going to reuse a super common PURELEI product that you probably already have but probably never actually use: our jewelry bags.

All you need is...

  • PURELEI jewelry bag
  • Dried organic lavender flowers

Prepare your filling, fill the bags and tie them - done! If you want, add rice to the dried lavender flowers (I recommend one part lavender with one part rice).

With a subtle scent, the lavender bags keep your clothes fresh and fragrant without any extra work (plus it's organic, yay!).

Pro tip: The ever-popular lavender bags make excellent Mother's Day gifts!

Bee-friendly can upcycling

Are you wondering how you can help the bees? Here's a quick and easy way to create a safe and cozy living space for our buzzing neighbors waking up in the spring!

All you need is...

  • Bee-friendly can upcycling DIY
  • Old can
  • Bee-friendly hollow stems or bamboo sticks

With the launch of our vintage collection in January, we were able to raise money to support an amazing cause: saving our bees!

So I thought it would be fun to include a simple upcycling project that also helps our bees! You can find bee-friendly hollow stems or bamboo sticks at any hardware store or online.

Simply place them in an old tin (and decorate if you like!) and make sure the stems are tight and not movable to protect your new fluffy neighbors. When they are ready, hang them in a sheltered location and provide water if you can.

I hope you enjoyed our upcycling projects as much as I did! Let me know if you enjoyed it and share your thoughts in the comments below.

My advice: Always ask yourself “What else could you do with it?” before throwing away an old object or when you come across an unused product. Upcycling is a great way to reuse materials and reduce our environmental footprint, and a fun quarantine activity especially during these times.

Kind regards

Lauri
